PUERTO PRINCESA, PALAWAN — Beginner and grassroots swimmers from across the region took to the pool on January 10, 2026 for the League of Champions: Rookie Ripples — Begin To Swim 1st Power Dive, part of the Swim League Philippines (SLP) series of swim meets aimed at developing new talent in the sport.
The event, hosted at the RVM Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa City, drew enthusiastic participation from novice competitors in a fun and supportive environment. Designed especially for first-time competitors and Class ABCD swimmers, the Rookie Ripples meet emphasized skill building, confidence, and sportsmanship in a competitive yet encouraging setting.
Organized jointly by Swim League Philippines, Begin To Swim (BTS), and with support from the Local Government of Puerto Princesa City, the competition is part of a broader effort to promote grassroots swimming development throughout the country. Through SLP’s “United We Swim” initiative, swimmers of all ages and levels are given opportunities to race, learn proper technique, and gain experience in a structured meet.
Participants competed in various categories suited to beginners and early-stage swimmers, with events adapted to develop confidence in the water while encouraging healthy competition. Parents, coaches, and spectators lined the poolside to cheer on the rookies as they tackled their races, many clocking personal bests and celebrating small victories.
For many of the young competitors, this marked their first official swim meet, offering a memorable introduction to organized swimming and the broader Philippine aquatics community. Organizers say events like Rookie Ripples play a crucial role in expanding participation in swimming beyond elite levels, encouraging more Filipinos to embrace the sport from the ground up.
As Swim League Philippines continues its nationwide calendar of Rookie Ripples and other swim battles, local swimmers in Palawan and beyond are being empowered to turn early enthusiasm into future competitive success.
